About eToro

Founded in 2007, eToro is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ-listed since 2025) with over 40 million registered users worldwide as of June 2026 [3]. The broker is regulated by tier-1 authorities including the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus), and ASIC (Australia) [2][5]. It offers commission-free trading on real US-listed stocks and ETFs for buy-and-hold orders in supported regions, though some European markets (Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, etc.) recently introduced a $1–$2 flat fee per stock trade [2][6][7]. Products include stocks, ETFs, 100+ cryptocurrencies, forex, commodities, and indices via CFDs or real ownership; options are available but mutual funds, bonds, and futures are not [4][8]. The minimum deposit is typically $10 (varies by region), and the platform supports web, desktop, iOS, and Android apps, but offers no API, MetaTrader, or cTrader access [2][5].

Pros

+Commission-free real stock and ETF trading (non-leveraged, supported regions)
+Industry-leading CopyTrader feature with $200 minimum to auto-replicate top performers
+Proprietary platform with excellent mobile and desktop apps and TradingView-powered charts
+Social trading ecosystem including copy trading and real-time market context via feed
+Smart Portfolios offering ready-made thematic investment strategies

Cons

-No API, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), or cTrader support — zero algorithmic trading access
-$5 flat withdrawal fee regardless of amount and 0.5% FX conversion fee on non-USD deposits
-1% fee on cryptocurrency trades, which is higher than many dedicated crypto platforms
-No support for mutual funds, bonds, futures, or retirement accounts (e.g., IRA)
-Limited advanced research tools and confusing options trading interface

Nice interface, terrible hidden fees

Honest review after 1 year: the platform looks great but the costs are hidden. Spread on BTC is like 0.75% which is insane compared to Binance. Withdrawal fee is 5 USD every time. And if you hold CFD positions overnight they charge you financing. I didnt realize how much I was paying until I checked my account statement — over 200 in fees in 6 months on a 3000 account. I moved to Interactive Brokers for stocks and Binance for crypto. eToro is good for absolute beginners who want simplicity, but anyone with some experience should use proper brokers.

Good for copy trading, expensive otherwise

eToro is fine if you want to copy trade stocks. The interface is intuitive and the social feed is entertaining. But the fees add up — 5 dollars per withdrawal, spreads are wider than IBKR, and the overnight fees on CFD positions are brutal if you hold more than a few days. I use it mainly for the copy trading feature which is genuinely unique. Copied a popular investor with 23% annual return and my 1000 portfolio is up about 180 in 6 months. Not amazing but passive. If you are an active trader, look elsewhere. For hands-off investors who like the social aspect, its decent.
